Its our stud Sciarra's 4th Birthday today!
Sciarra was bred and thus named and registered by Melford Green Alpacas. At Melford Green they name all of the alpacas inline with a James Bond theme. Sciarra is the surname of a villainous criminal (Marco Sciarra), whom stars in the opening chase of Spectre. Sciarra's wife (Lucia Sciarra) is subsequently widowed after the chase and then saved and seduced by Bond, as is often the case with films female protagonist.
Our Sciarra is no villian, but he certainly is a character, especially when moving him for mating! This season he's been mated with Amaya (Brown) and Verushka (White). He has a showy light fawn fleece, and as well as Snowmass and Bozedown in his grand genetics, his dam was also a white and fawn fancy. Therefore his matings could certainly lead to some interesting colouring in his offspring.
Here at Meadow Valley Alpacas, we too have decided to use themes for the naming of cria. However rather than sticking to one theme across them all, we have a different theme for each year. That way it's easy to tell which alpacas are born in the same birth year. Last year we had scientific elements, (hence Zinc, Quarts & Tungsten). Who knows what the theme will be this year.
