Amid these strange and uncertain times, there was lots of happiness and excitement at Meadow Valley Farm this weekend. We had the wonderful joy of welcoming our first alpaca cria of the year to the world. Say hello to Barry!
At noon on Saturday the bundle that is now known to be Barry, was delivered by his very capable mother Gretal completely unassisted. She is our very pretty fawn lady, and she has not disappointed by producing a very good looking boy. She appears to be nursing him well with no issues currently. Barry's sire is Melford Greens much loved stud Manitou, which poses well for Barry's to have a nice showy fleece.
Barry was 8.4kg when born, and is now up to 10kg 2 days later. We'll continue to weigh him daily to check up on his progress. The other females in the field are very interested in checking up on him too, or they're just being nosy at the new arrival!
We should soon be expecting another cria from Jill, and it's likely to be a brown of some sort making it very easy to tell them apart. We won't reveal the name theme for this year just yet, but it will become clear when cria no. 2 arrives...
